Putting the T in STEM: Teaching Mathematics Using Technology
Help me give my students the tools they need to be successful in the 21st century: tablets, cases, styluses, and headphones to participate in interactive, engaging, and relevant math lessons.
I teach 8th grade math and Algebra 1. Many of my students do not have WiFi at home and would greatly benefit from more reliable access in the classroom.They are the most hard-working, tenacious, and motivated children I have ever met. I love my students and see in them a burning desire to succeed. It is my job to provide them with the tools best to accomplish their goals. Many of my students work as hard as they can to breathe life into their goals and experience the success they long for. I want my students to better understand the applications of Mathematics and to prepare them for careers in science, technology, and mathematics, STEM.
My Project
I teach Algebra 1 and 8th Grade Math. I enjoy using iPads in the classroom and all of the apps that come along with them. I think it is important for students to have equal opportunities. This means all students should have access to technology and the tools to fully engage with that technology.
I need iPads, and cases, so that all students can participate in lessons using various technologies that both illustrate and explain difficult mathematical topics in relevant and engaging ways.
I need headphones so my students can hear what is being said without interference and styluses so their writing on the iPads is legible.
Students who learn using technology have more opportunities to engage with Mathematics outside of class and are more likely to enjoy and pursue, and be prepared for, STEM careers in the future.
