Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I am a 6th grade ELA teacher at a very diverse and urban school. I am going on my third year of teaching and have taught in very different places.
My students are wonderful kids with unique hearts.
They love deeply but often have deep wounds. These wounds cause them to act out more times than not. Hopefully, with the help of Donors Choose, I can receive more information and techniques that will help me improve my relationship with these students!
My Project
On my way to becoming a teacher, I went down an alternative path. In college, I was not convinced that teaching was what I wanted to do. Instead, I got my degree in English and went on with my life. After a year of being out of school, I realized that teaching was my calling. Although I took the long way to my dream, I finally reached it.
I have been teaching for two years now, and realize that I need help with my classroom management.
While my classroom management has improved since my first year, it needs to improve even more.
I find that a lot of professional development is not very helpful when it comes to classroom management. That is why I am seeking a class that will actually give me strategies and worksheets to use. I have found a class through the University of Phoenix online, that will help me with my management. I am taking it right away, so that I can have the summer to plan out next year. I am hoping to start next year off as the best year of my teaching career!
