My students often face a lot of challenges, not only academically, but socially as well. They are original thinkers and enjoy hands-on learning and activities with movement.
Our public elementary school in Indianapolis faces the daily challenge of educating and motivating students that live well within the poverty level.
Our students are very active learners. They love when we have flexible seating options, STEM projects, and a choice of tasks within their daily routine. They work best in a flexible, yet structured, environment.
My Project
Currently, we have a STEM lab at our school. We have done a few makerspace projects using recyclable materials. We would like to add in some art components to be used in maker space and STEM projects on our way to becoming a STEAM lab.
The art materials in this project will help to begin our school’s journey into doing more STEAM investigations and challenges.
The paper, paints, brushes, chenille stems, buttons, and wiggle eyes will be available as makerspace materials. The paper cutter will be in the lab for the teacher to cut paper for the students' projects. Some of the chenille stems and pony beads will be used in explaining binary code to younger students.
