Putting Students in the Captain's Seat of Their Education
My students need flexible seating where they can feel like they are are able to reach out of their socioeconomically environment and make it into a professional setting.
I have the privilege to teach some wonderful 6th grade students math this year. I have five regular math classes and one intensive class at the moment. Although our curriculum is math I strive to teach "the whole child" having our classroom "teach peace" (which stands for participation, empathy, accountability, commitment, and empower). Our students are from a low socioeconomic area of our district and our school is a title one school.
My students have so much potential in them and I strive to help them reach their full capacity, turning them into the leaders of tomorrow.
There is so much growth that will happen at this age and our students encourage each other to succeed. I feel that I will learn just as much from them as they will learn from me.
My Project
The principal at our school always says, "The only constant in education is change." I remember when I attended school and we sat at desks and watched a teacher talk and write on a white board. Instruction has changed to now make things more hands on and have our students become active learners; however, this is made difficult by having a classroom straight out of the past.
The donations I receive will allow my students to have seating that helps them feel professional and boosts their self-worth into a mindset where they can accomplish anything.
When you are comfortable it is easier to focus and participate in the learning environment and these ergonomic chairs will bring that atmosphere to our classroom. I believe that the ability for my students to have chairs that are easy to move around into group work stations for collaboration is vital to the progression of education in my room.
