My Students

I work in the Student Support Center of a k-2 elementary school. I focus on students with behavioral, as well as social and emotional needs. During a regular day I see students that earn time for following behavior plans, need a calming space, or an alternate recess for various reasons.

The best part of the job is watching how the students grow emotionally and learn to self regulate with the strategies they learn in the SSC.

Providing a quiet space is key for their continued growth.

My Project

All students need to feel safe at school. I'm requesting a Social and Emotional Foundation Kit. This kit will help me create a safe play/work space for kids to sort, share, and work through their emotions.

Not only will children be given a private/safe space to self-sooth, they will be given the tools needed to help name the emotions they are feeling, and teach them appropriate ways to handle their emotions, thus allowing them to calmly return to class.

The books, Flower Feelings Learning Kit, and puzzles are all items children will be able to put into their self-regulation tool-kit to help them on their way to social and emotional well-being.
