My students are creative, thoughtful and full of questions! I teach 20 energetic kindergarten students who are starting their journey of becoming readers. Part of being a teacher is being creative on how we teach and giving kids their best learning environment. The demands on kindergarten are continuing to grow more and more and as a teacher it is my job to continue to find creative ways to keep my students actively engaged in what they are learning. I want to give my students the chance to thrive and learn and be excited about coming to school every single day.
In kindergarten we see students soar and become very bright little readers. Many students start the year not reading at all and leave us reading at or above a first-grade reading level. I want to be able to give these students in my classroom new books and different options for what to read. I am writing this grant to give my higher-level readers a new classroom library that they are excited about.
It is important that when our readers start taking off with their skills, they remain excited about reading and enjoy the books we are giving them.
This grant will give my students the opportunity to be exposed to chapter books and higher-level thinking books.
