Our high school is a small city school which has a culture of hardworking and wonderful students. We may not have the money of bigger systems but we have the support of the community and teachers who pour their hearts and souls into kids.
At our high school, we have to make a little money go a long way.
We are blessed with a combination of academic and athletic kids which is inspiring and admirable. Over 1/2 of our kids come from low-income households. We have a mix of different races and cultures. Most of our students will return and work and live in this community and raise their families.
Many students in my courses are identified to have specific learning disabilities in reading, math or processing. They have to overcome these challenges to meet their learning goals.
Even though they face income challenges and sometimes learning challenges, they will work hard to succeed. Our kids deserve the best and we work with all of the tools we can find, like DonorsChoose.org, to make their educational experience incredible! You can be a big part of that!
My Project
One of the most frustrating elements of teaching is when a student cannot access instructional materials due to a special need. Many of my students have reading disabilities which limit their access to written text, especially on the computer. There are so many tools available, like an immersive reader and Google Tools that read the text but the students don't have headphones to use, so they don't use the tools.
I would like to have a class set of headphones for students to borrow.
Currently I have a few pairs that I have personally bought but I would like to make this available to any of my students who need it. A class set of headphones would really help support my students, especially those with special needs.
