My Students

My fifth grade students are eager and enthusiastic learners who are part of a very tight knit school community of students, staff and families. Our school has amazing, diverse, hard working students. Nearly 100% of our students are economically disadvantaged. Also 30% of our fifth grade students have special learning needs.

My students have a growth mindset and take ownership of their learning.

These are students who possess a very wide range of skill levels and have very diverse educational needs. All can benefit by having access to a wide variety of resources while working toward their individualized learning goals.

These students may attend classes in a building that was built in the 19th Century, but they are definitely 21st Century learners. They are curious and want to soak up all the knowledge they can get.

My Project

My students are reading on a wide range of levels. They need books that range from first grade through middle school level. It is very difficult for me to provide them with the materials needed for each student to engage in the daily independent reading needed for them to grow as readers.

These tablets will meet my students’ diverse needs by giving them access to thousands of quality digital books through free apps such as Epic, Reading IQ, and Libby.

My students will be able to choose from an immense variety of books that will allow them to read independently at their own skill level. They will also be able to choose books that interest them.

The best way to increase reading ability is to read more, and these tablets will help my students grow stronger in reading. My students already have shown great interest in independent reading, and this project will give them access to a nearly endless digital library At their fingertips.
