Ms. S. from Chicago IL is requesting a class trip through DonorsChoose, the most trusted classroom funding site for teachers.
The cost of sending 25 students and four chaperones to the public library is $159, including <a target="new" href="http://www.donorschoose.org/html/fulfillment.htm" onclick="g_openWindow('http://www.donorschoose.org/html/fulfillment.htm', 300, 800, 'fulfillwindow');return false;">fulfillment</a>.

Although my eager second-graders love to read and relish access to quality literature, most of them do not have public library cards, given that it is not safe for them to walk to their neighborhood library. Fortunately, Chicago\'s flagship public library, the Harold Washington Library Center, welcomes young students to its beautiful children\'s library. It is my dream that my students visit this downtown treasure, so that they could obtain public library cards that would provide access to this vast resource for the rest of their lives. At the Harold Washington Library, the students from my low-income school would also participate in a program designed to engage primary readers with all aspects of the library. These programs are generously offered at no charge, so the only cost involved in helping my students obtain library cards is that of the school bus. Because my students have demonstrated a great love of books, I know they would cherish the opportunity to have even more quality literature available to them through the public library.
