Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My students are eager to improve their literacy skills in both English and Spanish, and will be doing lots of reading and writing this year. As language learners, it is incredibly important to provide them with durable resources that can withstand lots of use.
My students are in Washington Heights in a 3rd grade dual language classroom.
They all receive free or reduced lunch and many don't have technology in their homes.
While we are able to borrow laptops from the school, it would be a great help for students to print out individual word walls and other resources, as well as their own written work when it is complete.
My Project
My biliterate students are hungry to learn new words! Unfortunately, due to limited wall space, we can only have so many words up at a time on the classroom word walls. By printing their own individual word walls, students will be able to easily refer to them in their writing. They can be updated at the right pace for each student, which is great for both my struggling and more gifted students. Since everything in our dual language classroom needs to be color-coded, the color printer will also help us to maintain that code in students' work and any posters that go up in the classroom.
This project would help my classroom tremendously.
My students will be so excited to print the word walls, any extra resources and their own finished written work! Seeing it written on the screen is one thing, but putting it in print is another.
