Help me give my students a chance to put down their phones, use critical thinking skills, and engage with their peers. Our students have loved being able to visit the media center during their lunch and play chess.
This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Project
Our students are creative and critical thinkers who are always looking for new ways to expand their minds and social circles. A simple chess board purchased at Goodwill opened up a world of interest and curiosity. Students are eager to get to the media center during their lunch and compete against other students. This simple activity provides students with a chance to get away from the hustle and bustle of the cafeteria, which allows for a change to refresh and recharge, but also put down the phone and interact with one another.
Chess has become an essential piece in our students' social and emotional health, and we would love to have more opportunities for more students to join in on the fun.
