This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
No, my students were not born when the classic and catchy tune "Put Down the Duckie" was first heard on Sesame Street.
However, I do teach students who would love to play the saxophone like Hoots the Owl!
Matter of fact, I would love to play like Hoots!
Inquisitive, talented, extraordinaire, funny, and creative; these are just a few of the adjectives that describe my music students. This year my students are SO excited to play recorders which were funded by DonorsChoose.org! My students are currently using the Recorder Karate Program, and working on how to produce a pleasing tone and use correct recorder fingerings! Providing my students with opportunities that engage, promote complex problem-solving skills, critical thinking skills, and creativity is a priority.
My Project
My project involves the implementation of SLO (Student Learning Objectives). This year I have chosen to assess students' ability to read the lines and spaces of the treble clef using a recorder or Nuvo instrument. We will focus on playing with accurate intonation and rhythm.
The jSax will be used to introduce single-reed skills.
These Nuvo instruments will prepare our students to transition to the clarinet or saxophone and will help them distinguish among a variety of musical timbres. The jSax Mouthpiece assembly will allow another student to use this instrument at another time.
This project will provide challenging activities for advanced recorder players that want to expand upon their musicianship.
Your investment will encourage and motivate my 10-11 year olds to develop a deeper understanding and love for music!
