Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Teaching in a low socioeconomic area unfortunately means many of my students do not have access to books or good reading habits at home. To help them develop a love of learning which will hopefully be lifelong, I am always looking for ways to motivate them in literacy in the classroom.
As an educator, putting learning tools in the hands of kids is my first priority.
Specifically as a second grade teacher, I know my students will likely have greater success in higher education as readers if they are proficient readers by third grade. I look toward my students' futures as I improve reading routines and access in the classroom environment.
My Project
My class is full of seven and eight year old kiddos on the cusp of becoming great readers. Providing them with books that will interest them is essential to sparking their motivation in reading. For many of my students, level 3 and 4 picture books as well as chapter books are just what they need.
Having a variety of interesting books in our class library can hook even the most reluctant reader.
I have selected books that my students have specifically requested. My hope is that with many wonderful new books to choose from, every student will discover a love of reading and build their confidence.
