Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
It's hard to read when your book is bound with duct tape. My students love everything from Greek Mythology to Dr. Seuss. We need new books to replace the tattered and torn books we currently have access to.
I teach 26 eager and determined 5th graders in California.
Our school has a strong emphasis on empowering students in under-resourced communities to make college a reality. My students already have set their sights on top universities around the country and they have the drive and determination to achieve great things. In order to reach their goals they need to continue to strengthen their reading skills. This requires that they have access to a wide-range of rich texts at their reading level. Unfortunately, resources are scarce in our community and my students do not have access to the books they need to become successful students.
My Project
A wide-range of fiction titles at my students' reading level will impact their learning and their academic confidence. My students will be able to learn about the world beyond their community while gaining the necessary skills to successfully access all texts. These are skills that are integral to their success as middle school, high school, and ultimately college students.
My students have the drive and passion to be life-long learners.
Now, all they need are the resources. These books will bring the joy of reading into our classroom, and give my students the books they need to succeed.
