Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
When I think about my fifth grade students, the first words that come to mind are thoughtful, energetic, worthy, eager to learn, and curious. Most of these characteristics come with the territory of being a kid, but others are due to their everyday culture. Every day we work, as educators, to give our students all the necessary tools to succeed both in their education and their character. We do this through engaging activities and exercises.
It is important for kids to have ownership of something that leads them to success, something they look forward to, and something that provides them with the ability to meet their goals.
In order for our students to experience real-world situations and be able to benefit from daily lessons, they require tools to learn.
With your help, I can take our kids from where they are and give them the necessary tools to plan goals and work to reach them. Throughout the school year, our students become more aware of real-life mathematical situations and how to use math every day.
Every one of my students’ lives was impacted by Hurricane Harvey. As a community, we are working together to rebuild, protect, and soothe our students.
My Project
My students have the biggest hearts filled with small town pride. Prior to the last break from school, I asked my students how they could #payitforward and their responses were amazing:
"We should do something special for all our school family to show we care-we should put a smile on their face with a small gift of gratitude for helping us be who we are." From this statement, the classroom exploded with ideas of secret messages on post its to hershey's kisses left on keyboards.
My students were very selfless in their ideas and blossomed as philanthropists and designers.
The snacks and sticky notes from this project, will be used by the students to create small gifts. These gifts will be gifted to spread the love they so want to show. The materials from this DonorsChoose project will be packaged by students to be then delivered to destinations throughout our school community. The positive morale these supplies will spread is life changing. The students have many opportunities with this project to be mindful, learn skills of gift wrap, show responsibility and selflessness, along with other social skills.
