Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
As a first year kindergarten teacher in an under resourced school I have resorted to using my artistic skills, as well as the contents of my kitchen cabinets to compensate for lacking resources. One thing that I can not create (or scrounge for) is a calculator. Anyone that has met a kindergarten student is familiar with their curious nature and desire to explore. They want to touch everything! If there are buttons, they want to push them. Kindergarten calculators will help make number recognition a game. I could use them to reinforce basic addition concepts and number sense. These calculators will be shared across grade level to help over 80 students this year, not to mention the hundreds of students that will benefit from this resource in the years to come. If you are able to help fund this proposal, you will also be providing my students with other much needed resources. We will use the scissors, glue, and dry erase markers for activities across the curriculum. My students and I can not thank you enough for your generosity!
