My students need to see a real robot at work. The Roomba robot vacuum cleaner will show my students a robot serving a real purpose! They will observe how the Roomba moves and works.
This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
My prekindergarten students are from disadvantaged homes so, they only receive authentic technology experiences in school. They are smart, curious, and LOVE to learn new things. They like challenges, new toys, and working on projects.
My students LOVE to learn how and why things work.
They know how to use skills they were taught to learn new ways to learn. They make choices, and do things to help others learn as well. My students are going to be LIFE-LONG LEARNERS with experiences beginning in prekindergarten.
My Project
A lot of children are dazzled by what robots can do. With all the media coverage showing the greatness of robots, it is hard not to be excited about robots, droids, and machines that are purposeful in our world. Our children forget the purpose in all the excitement.
There is a huge curiosity in robots that transform, shoot weapons, and make loud sounds, but that is not the main purpose for bots.
I would like for my students to experience one of the actual purposes for robots. I have requested a Roomba robot vacuum cleaner to show our children the job of a purposeful robot. Our youngest learners will observe and figure out how the cleaning droid works. The Roomba will motivate our youngsters to think about how they can use and create robots to assist with our every day lives.
The request for the robotic kits will give aid to our students in creating the next BIG robotic inventions. The children will think how robots can help, make their thoughts reality, and demonstrate it using the kits.
Our youngest learners will construct and adjust the robots if needed to make the robots helpful to our classroom, school, city and eventually the world.
