Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

I am seeking funding for tissues and Purell to minimize germs within the classroom. Teaching children in East Harlem for the last year, I have been shocked to discover the number of students who suffer from asthma. Common colds are frequent and many students have poor personal hygiene. As winter approaches, the sniffles, sneezes and coughs are on the rise. Many of my students have missed between 3-4 days of school since the start of the new year. In an effort to keep the children from spreading germs between each other and to me, I have made a class "rule" to wash their hands each time they enter the classroom. I have spent time teaching them that this practice needs to be done when they enter their house and before eating, because germs are spread through touch. Using tissues when sneezing or wiping their nose seems obvious to most people, yet children choose a variety of other materials instead. Supplying the classroom with sufficient hand sanitizer and tissues will help reduce absences and keep all children on the same page (literally) with the class lessons. Thank you for your help to instill habits for wellness and valuing the health of children and their teacher.
