Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Our first grade is comprised of 26 amazing students. They are a group of kind and thoughtful scholars! Many students come from bilingual households and receive free or reduced-price lunch. Likewise, several students come from lower-income households and some are in foster care. My students in first grade recover quickly from difficult situations, and are eager to please. I have found my pupils learn best with hands-on learning activities and real-life integrated curriculum that is relatable to my students. Overall, these kids are amazing and resilient.
My Project
We all know literacy is an essential skill for every elementary-aged child to have, but many people forget how important it is for those same children to know how to play and use their imaginations!
My students are showing an interest in learning to read fluently in first grade, but the materials my class has can lack motivation and excitement for the students.
Children who use puppets in social group's play themes become more complex and imaginary through active involvement. Also, the Reader's Theater strategy blends students' desire to perform with their need for oral reading practice. Overall, a puppet theater and puppets offers an entertaining and engaging means of improving fluency and enhancing comprehension!
