Everyday my twelve students run down the hall into my Kindergarten special education inclusion classroom in rural Salem County, New Jersey. They are so excited to start the day, to learn and see their friends.
They are future farmers, vets, doctors, teachers, singers, police officers, construction workers, leaders, scientists, and business owners.
I want to provide them with every resource possible to encourage a life-long love of learning, make their Kindergarten year successful and eventually make their dreams come true.
My Project
With the addition of a puppet theater, my students can expand their playtime options. Students act out social situations, books they have read, and things they have imagined. So much of the school day is structured learning time, and play time is necessary for students to get their creativity flowing.
Pretend play can be the most powerful tool for learning in an early childhood setting.
This play time helps with reading, writing, and social skills. Students are given the space and freedom to create their own worlds and to work through feelings they are having, both at home and at school.
