Teaching is the best way to learn; I know from experience. Every time I teach something to my students, I understand it on a new, different level.
I am an art teacher at a rural school in Wilkes County, NC. I want my students to experience art by using it to teach others about an issue that is important to them, or telling a story with a moral value. Students will create a "Puppet Theater Production" that will animate their story.
Groups of students will work together to create puppets that will bring life to a story or issue. They will use materials such as felt, plaster, paper mache, pipe cleaners and paint. After their puppets are created, these groups will present their puppet theater to other students. The students making the puppets will learn a new skill and will teach a value or lesson to their peers!
