Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My classroom consists of 22 energetic, motivated, hard-working first graders who are eager to learn how to become good readers, writers and mathematicians.
My young scholars enter first grade at a range of different levels and abilities.
Each student works diligently in order to meet and/or exceed the standards for first grade.
Many of my students speak two languages and come from various ethnic backgrounds. This unique setting helps students to develop a cultural awareness and respect for one another.
My Project
In order to teach writing effectively, students need the right tools to support their learning. Many of the items I am hoping to receive are basic consumables such as pens, highlighters, tape, markers, sentence strips and staplers with staples.
In order to make writing more exciting however, I would like to focus on publishing my students' narratives and reports more often.
By having astrobright paper and a color printer with an ink bundle in the classroom, students will have the opportunity to print their stories and reports on their own. This experience will help them to truly understand the final stage of the writing process.
When my young writers are ready to share, they will display their writing multiple ways (ie. book report covers, clear pockets and colored card stock) and need a laminator to laminate their covers. Students will enjoy having the opportunity to read their classmates writing throughout the year and feel proud to have their writing next to their favorite mentor authors.
