Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

As a new teacher, it has been such a joy to see the students\' growth this year. More specifically, their growth in writing has been phenomenal. Of my students, 85% are English Language Learners. Despite this language barrier, their vocabulary and writing development was tremendous this year. Their ability to master the four paragraph essay, tackle the narrative, and develop expository text has been incredible. However, one thing that seems to be lacking is a way to present this growth throughout the year. Although I saved their work and created a portfolio of their progress, the portfolio seemed lacking somehow. In this proposal I am requesting a binding machine. The binding machine and bindings would provide the means to create books out of their work. This would allow a very professional showcase of their work. The portfolio would include their original writings and artwork as they move through the writing process. Additionally the end-of-the-year books would be student-directed and self-selected pieces. Only those assignments the students were most proud of would be included. This will be a wonderful way to present the students\' work. The binding machine will be a great addition to our classroom. Thank you for considering our proposal.
