"Three Rules for Literary Success:
1. Read a lot.
2. Write a lot.
3. Read a lot more, write a lot more."
By: Robert Silverberg
This quote truly summarizes the importance of writing for today's society. To become successful in the professional world, students must be competent writers.
Nineteen children with nineteen very different personalities is a great way to summarize my classroom!
With eight lively boys and eleven creative girls, my classroom is a buzz of creativity! These students come from all different backgrounds and several of them speak another language in their home. It is through their writing, that they are able to describe their culture and express themselves! Many of them are on free/reduced lunch so therefore they know all to well the struggles their parents go through to provide for them. Writing gives them an outlet to get away from these everyday challenges and experience a different world in their imagination.
My Project
I am so proud of the writing my students consistently produce and I would love to be able to publish it in a book for them to have at the end of the year. This would show them the high value that I place on writing and would make them feel like accomplished authors!
I want to use these books to spark interest in the students to write more! We complete several writing projects throughout the year including, non-fiction book reports, poetry books, and journals. To be able to publish these writings into books for the students to keep would be a treasure for them. With many additional binders, we would be able to create books to go along with several of the topics that are taught in class!
By having a binding machine, I can not only create books for my current class, but for my classes in the future.
I want to give the students something to be proud of and show their parents. Not only will it be something that the student treasures, but it will also hopefully open a door of communication for the parents and their children. They will be able to talk to their children about their writing and encourage them to continue working hard in school!
