My Students

Make my students' writing last! My students have plenty of stories to tell, but they need a creative means of publishing their work.

I teach sixty sixth graders each day for language arts and social studies.

About thirty percent of my students are considered special education children. All children are taught in an inclusion setting. My students come from diverse backgrounds. Many students are dealing with the effects of poverty.

My Project

I am asking for 65 blank, hardcover books. Students will plan, write, illustrate, and publish their own picture books! Throughout the project, they will analyze and evaluate a work of literature, participate in a review of a story written by a peer, and use literary devices in an original work of fiction.

On my personal bookshelf at home, I keep my most treasured literary masterpieces.

Each book has special meaning to me. Along with memorable literature such as "The Giver" by Lois Lowery, "The Art of Teaching Writing" by Lucy Calkins, and "To Kill a Mockingbird" by Harper Lee, there lies my own self published books from elementary school. I am thankful for my writing teachers of the past who were able to inspire me to gain a life long love of words. I want to help motivate my students!
