Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Students in this program need a beginning to their ability to record the events in their world so that they can move on to the big world and tell stories through photos that need to be told. It is their photojournalist creed.
These students are passionate about the images they record.
They are not able to afford personal cameras; therefore the department needs to provide digital cameras for their use. They attend a school that borders on being a Title I school but is not. With the equipment the department has, the students have been able to win awards on the national and state level. However, having an additional camera with accessories would enable more students to attain the awards these students are capable of winning.
My Project
Through participating in a student publications program students provide the school with a recorded history of the year. The photos in the publications make the publications come alive. Those photos of activities, friends, sporting events recreate the year for students long after they have left the halls of their high school. Having access to another digital camera will enable the students to cover more people and more events. Some in the student publications program want to emulate the work of a former student, who won a Pulitzer prize for breaking news photography. His work changed relations between two countries. He has told them he takes photos to tell the stories that need to be told. They too want to do that.
Having one more digital camera will help one more student become the photojournalist that could capture the moment that tells the perfect story of the perfect moment at the perfect event.
