Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My students in our Title I school are college-track students. They are mostly Hispanic and African-American. All of them are in the French National Honor Society. These students live in a community rife with crime and violence. Many of them are from one-parent households. They feel safe at school. The more we can offer them here, the better.
These students are very involved in many school organizations.
These are the students in honors and AP classes. They are in band, orchestra, drama, chorus, gaming club, etc. Most of them are not athletes. They deserve a space at the school to call their own.
My Project
We are requesting paint and brushes so that we can paint the Pétanque court area which gives these students a place of their own on campus. It will give them a beautiful area they can be proud of. In such a stressful world full of exams and pressures that did not exist in past generations, this court gives students an area to decompress for just a little while and have fun. The walls are peeling, and we need paint and different brushes so that we can spruce them up. We also need paint for four tables where the teams will sit. Our construction students have already built the tables and are simply waiting for paint.
Not only will the Pétanque court benefit students at our school, but it will also benefit students county wide as we are hosting our first ever Pétanque invitational on April 24th!
Wouldn't it be great to have a hand in creating something so special?
