I teach a wonderful group of students at a public charter school. They come from diverse backgrounds and have different learning styles. They also benefit and learn the most from hands on activities.
Our school offers LEAP day every third Friday where we drop our regular classes and the students get to immerse themselves in a day full of exciting, extracurricular classes that they choose from.
Our students have diverse interests and are not afraid to play with what they learn.
My Project
Started at the beginning of 2019, PSA's rock climbing club has grown and developed into a favorite activity for several of our students. This campaign is to continue funding through the fall semester of next school year. Every third Friday of the semester we have a day full of clubs and extracurricular learning. We will visit Coastal Climbing's bouldering gym every third Friday as a group in the fall, in addition to weekly meetups outside of school.
This Fall, our club will take climbing to the next level by competing in USA Climbing's 601-Southeast Bouldering regionals.
Please help our students prepare and compete to the best of their abilities, and most importantly HAVE FUN by donating to our campaign! Your donation helps pay for their time at the gym.
This club has made a lasting impression on our students, many of whom have a new found interest that they will continue to pursue after high school. I find rock climbing to be an interesting physical, mental, and logical challenge. One cannot tackle a difficult route without an understanding of strategy, basic physics (center of gravity, etc.) and physical awareness. This club has already made a difference for several students who previously did not view themselves as athletic, and now are already ROCK STARS!
