Our campus is well diverse in an increasingly growing population. I teach middle school math students including seventh and eighth-grade algebra students. When movement is incorporated into student learning, students learn more by staying engaged. Stations are regularly incorporated into lesson plans when possible to continue teaching with differentiation. Middle school students also love when they are able to work with the teacher in small group rotations. Adjusting the teacher to student ratio is vital to teaching in today's classroom!
My goal is to teach to different learning styles and provide differentiation instructional support to my students.
It is extremely important to provide engaging lessons for my middle school math students. My students come to school energized and ready to learn every day! They enjoy movement and hands-on activities. A comfortable learning environment will lead to more student engagement, which means more success!
My Project
Many of my current Algebra and Honors Math students do not have the basic supplies necessary to encourage them to be successful. Approximately one-fourth of my students need to borrow pencils daily and I supplied composition books at the beginning of the year if students came to school without one. I replace composition books as necessary throughout the school year. On a weekly basis, students use an old set of color pencils on assignments, because many do not have their own.
My project includes a variety of resources including the basic supplies such as pencils, erasers, pencil sharpeners, a new set of color pencils, thin markers, lined paper, and graph paper.
Other items include items for the classroom which support students through instructions, such as erasers for the individual white boards. Card stock, is one of many items purchased out of pocket, and it is used to create task cards, which encourages student collaboration.
