Providing More Accessibility for Different Kinds of Learners
Help me give my students updated movable workplace tools (Charles Leonard Dry Erase Lapboards and AmazonBasics Hardboard Clipboards ), headphones, and table Dry Erase Removable Vinyl Dot Circles to work independently.
My room is full of energy, creativeness, and personality! The class is composed of 24 brilliant developing minds who work hard individually but also have big hearts and help lift one another up as a whole group. We support one another and embrace our differences. Kindergarten is my passion, and this community is my home.
Our school's student body comes from a variety of different economic backgrounds with over 55% of our school's population qualifying for free or reduced-priced lunches.
Our classroom is very diverse, and we have many home languages including Chinese, Burmese, Spanish, Tagalog, Vietnamese, and English, to name just a few! I make it my goal to provide a safe, welcoming, and accommodating setting for all of the students to feel comfortable and confident.
I want to encourage an eagerness to learn. I try to push my students to challenge themselves academically, to learn empathy, and to promote inclusiveness of all kinder friends while learning, socializing, and playing with each other. I also want to equip my students with the tools and skills to explore their education in different kinds of ways to find out what works best for them.
My Project
Being a kindergarten teacher, I have seen the importance of allowing students to feel comfortable in their learning environment. I have many wigglers that just need movement to concentrate. I also have other students who need to drown out noise to focus. And I see so many kinders who have developed stronger fine motor skills through drawing, doodling, just plain practicing their writing, whether it is on lined paper at their desks, on clipboards walking around the classroom, or sitting on the rug with their white boards.
I embrace the fact that we all learn differently and I try to support all my students in allowing them to explore various tools and learning techniques that can enhance their understanding and development at this young age.
I love offering my students clipboards if they choose to leave their desks and to find a more conducive place to focus on their work.
In my classroom, we often use whiteboards in all subject areas. Whether we are practicing our letters during English, writing out number sentences for Math, or free drawing for Art or free choice, our whiteboards are used almost daily. Because of this, our current set has definitely seen better days! I am hoping to get a brand new class set with erasers and pens for my class to continue our daily practices, as well as table top dots for stationary writing practice at our 2 workplace centers. Also, we currently have a roving technology cart, but because my students are the youngest of the school, the headphone set we have available does not properly fit them. I would like my students to feel comfortable so that they can focus on their Lexiacore or other educational apps.
