My students need basic materials in our classroom for the new year to provide engaging activities that are hands on. WE need glue, construction paper and more.
Our school is a small community school with incredibly sweet kids. Most receive free or reduced lunch. I believe that my students feel welcome and safe at our school because our number one priority is the child. We do have some sad stories that I hear every day, and I just want to try to make the kids in my classroom have the best that they can and deserve. With the cut of funds even the basic materials that we need to create a classroom that is engaging through hands on materials is no longer available. This will be the second year that our school has not been given classroom supply funds.
My Project
As I mentioned before, due to funds being cut in the state our school is going on it’s second year without supply money for our classrooms. Most of which I usually provide out of pocket. We also have lost our computer class, so this means we lost our headphones that the students need to work independently on computers throughout the day. It is my wish that we could all have a set of headphones for each child during the school year to use. I also requested the other items, such as construction paper, glue sticks, scissors, paints, and folders so I can have students create learning projects which will help them become engaged in the lessons. The construction paper and glue sticks will be used to create projects to visually represent what they have learned. The scissors will be used weekly to cut our spelling words so students can move each word around and sort them by their spelling patterns along with other projects that we will need to cut out. The paint will be used many times throughout the year but one project that we will use it on is our life cycles of chicken where they again will make a visual representation of the chicken life cycle by painting the different stages. I will also use the folders to create math centers where the students will play the games to reinforce their math skills.
