My students need a sufficient amount of essential art supplies such as a classroom pack of crayons, oil pastels, and glue sticks, 36 black sharpie markers, and 60 pencils.
This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
A call for Color! Shouldn't children's artwork be as bright as it appears in their imagination? Be the one to bring color into their art by providing essential art supplies!
Our K-8 school is one of two public schools in the entire county that allow elementary students the opportunity to attend art class weekly throughout the school year.
It is a school full of creative children and is a place where the Arts are truly embraced. Students from all over the county attend the school- elementary age students are selected through Magnet Lottery and middle school students must audition for acceptance. 65% of the students are eligible for either free or reduced lunch. The school is only in its third year running and art resources are extremely limited.
My Project
Access to basic art supplies- including crayons, glue sticks, erasers, oil pastels, sequins, black sharpies, etc.- will allow my students to tangibly apply the color that is deeply rooted in the imagination of their minds. I know that in a child's hand these art materials will become instruments of exploration and expression- it is through the creation process that students are exposed to the highest orders of thinking. My students will have the opportunity to produce an array of 2D and 3D works of art with these materials.
Art is a subject that visually stimulates the mind to question, ponder, analyze and understand the world.
With these materials my students will create art that is rich in color and creativity- functioning as an expressive outlet that will enhance their entire educational experience and help them to gain a deeper appreciation for art. Every student deserves the chance to convey meaning through their art!
