Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My students are creative, hardworking, and want to do their best. They love projects that let them express themselves and show who they are. They also love lessons that let them move around the classroom and take them outside. I have learned that the more they can move, the more engaged they are in the lesson.
Many of my students have lots of energy and need a positive outlet to express that energy while still being on-task.
Most of my students leave school and take on many responsibilities at home. They also do not always have the resources and materials that they need at home to complete their work. This is something that I cannot control. What I can control is the environment and atmosphere that I create in my classroom. While they are at school I want to give them the best opportunity to learn and grow.
My Project
Over the last two years, I have researched flexible seating and how it impacts the classroom. I have also been on the lookout for furniture that can be repurposed and reused. I even recruited my husband to build a standing table and other classroom furniture that will aid in my students' learning. Why?
Because I know that flexible seating will benefit my students in my English Language Arts classroom.
My students will be able to choose a seat, or an area, that will best benefit their learning. They will be able to maximize their potential and creativity. It also gives them a voice in their learning. Having a say in how they learn, even the smallest part, can make the biggest impact. The materials that I have chosen will help make that impact.
The teal backless stools will be used with a homemade standing table. With these stools, students will have the option to stand or sit. The pub table and stools will be another great flexible seating choice for students. They can also be used as a place for me to work one-on-one with students.
