Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My students are 8th graders in a public middle school. These students are typical youth, finding their way in the world, while at the same time, striving for academic success. While balancing social lives and lives outside of school, these students come to school every day to work hard to be the best students they can be.
These students are the future.
However, they need some help to ensure they all work to their potential and stay on track. I want my students to remain inspired, to see the big picture, and to work to make their dreams come true. These are exceptional young people that I teach, and I truly believe that they all have the potential to do great things.
Our school serves students in grades 6-8 and provides rigorous academics, fantastic teachers, and a safe learning environment. As a result, we are very proud of all of our students' outstanding achievements. My personal goal, as an English and History teacher, aligns with our school goal of preparing our students for success in high school, college, and beyond.
My Project
My students need high-interest books so that there is a wide variety of novels in our classroom library.
My students are definitely more engaged in their reading when there are endless fiction choices available!
As part of my curriculum, students are expected to read at least one book every two weeks. The school library is sometimes out of the most popular titles due to the fact that the entire school shares those resources, and the students don't always have access to the public libraries in our community. For that reason, it is imperative that my classroom library is there for them.
The best way to increase reading ability is to read more, and these books will continue to help my students grow stronger in reading. My classroom, with the help of these new books, will be a place where students get hooked on reading, making their transition to high school that much easier.
