Providing Books for our Library for Students with Special Needs.
My students need these 20 books in order to help provide high interest level books for the second library downstairs for students with physical and emotional needs.
We have a boy with muscular dystrophy in our room and he is unable to get upstairs to the main part of our school library. Well, my students applied their understanding of the Bill of Rights and began protests and lots of communication with the Superintendent about the situation.
These wonderful students have been able to convince the Board to approve a long-term plan of adding an elevator or lift to the top floor---until then, a second library has been added to the bottom floor and this grant is needed in order to help fill the library with books for any student who chooses to come here.
We have many students with strong socio-emotional needs and they will be using this library as a more comfortable place to go to. So, will you help begin the first wave of additions to this LIBRARY FOR ALL? The books chosen are based on the interests of the students.
My Project
With the determined leadership of a group of sixth graders who care about their fellow students, a second library has been added to the bottom floor of our school by our school district. Complete accessibility for students with physical needs is in the works but still a year or two away from fruition.
I have received some commitments already from donors in the district to help with the job of putting books in the library---but we still need help with some of the novels, specifically the ones in this grant application.
I am also donating some of my own books. But, these 20 novels need a donor to help us get them into the hands of our students with physical and emotional needs who will choose to use this library as their library of choice.
