My Students

All of the students in my class come to school feeling inadequate and self conscience about their reading abilities.

They are hungry for engaging texts to dive into in order to improve their reading skills along with their confidence. All students these days, especially middle schoolers, feel the need to conform to what they think is the norm in the world. This novel will expose them to a new view of the world.

My Project

All of my students are within the Special Education program at our school. Their reading abilities vary greatly but they all struggle to read even the most basic novels. Many of them do not like to read due to just how difficult it is for them. With the use of this novel, I am hoping to change this viewpoint for my students. My hope is that they will be able to see themselves within the characters in Wonder and realize a love and passion for reading.

If my students are given the opportunity to read Wonder and engage in the activities that will accompany this unit, they will be exposed to beautiful writing about a boy that they will be able to see themselves in.

They will also be able to work on their reading abilities and improve their self confidence.
