My Students
My school is over 80% low-income. We have a very large population of English language learners. These students understand what it means to be resilient. They do not allow any obstacles to get in their way.
My students come from low-income homes where many times basic supplies are not always the easiest to come across.
They come from all backgrounds and cultures with a common factor being a thirst for knowledge. These students deserve the same opportunities afforded to students at any other campus!
My Project
Our children come to school with all types of social and emotional needs that are not being met. Some of them have experienced death in their family, violence, neglect, poverty, and so much more. I want to provide an area where they can take a moment to feel safe and stress free. I have requested weighted blankets which have been proven to reduce anxiety. I would like them to have a cooling pillow to take their stress away.
Imagine sitting in class trying to learn your math skills but you just lost a love one and need a hug or safe place.
I want my students to have an area where they can just get up walk over and pick up a stress ball or fidget toy and let go of their worries. These items help with anxiety, stress, and hyper active children. They could grab a cool pillow and wrap up in a blanket while using aromatherapy (an oil diffuser with essential oils) to adjust their mood. If you want to get in their heads you first have to be able to get in their hearts. Help me gain that access.
