This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

As a teacher in a low-income school district, my students are faced with several challenges both in and out of the classroom. Finding books to engage my students can be a challenge, which is why it is essential to have quality literature that reflects their lives.

With access to engaging literature that reflects their lives and experiences, they will be able to further develop their academic literacy as well as foster a love of reading.

I often tell my students: Today a reader, tomorrow a leader. Author's such as Jason Reynolds address difficult topics that are very real to our student population.

My Project

These books will continue to create strong readers who are engaged in what they are reading. Every student should have access to books that are reflective of their experiences. Ghost by Jason Reynolds has been chosen with my students in mind. I want them to not to be able to put the book down! Who doesn't love a good book? I am hopeful that our students will be moved by the exceptional writing of Jason Reynolds. Students will read every day in class and apply critical thinking skills through discussion and writing about what they have read. Thank you so much!
