Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My students are curious, hardworking, fun and creative children. They are a diverse group of middle schoolers who chose to learn Spanish as an elective subject, with their future as global citizens in mind.
Most of my students come from a Hispanic background, and only speak Spanish informally at home.
I want for my students to feel proud of their heritage, and to embrace their knowledge of their heritage language and culture.
Being bilingual and bicultural will help my students to increase their chance of being successful in the future. My students will increase their chances to enter the workforce and will contribute to society sharing their talents.
My Project
Scholastic Magazines ¿Qué tal? and Ahora will allow my students to access fun, relevant and current articles to practice their reading skills and enhance their comprehension and speaking skills. The articles are curated to show different aspects of the wide Hispanic culture.
It is through the knowledge of the Spanish language and culture that my students will grow proud of their heritage.
It is through the study of the language that my students will feel confident to use the language in academic and formal settings. In order to motivate my students to learn and explore I need inviting resources designed for their age group and interests.
