My Students

Too often holidays like Labor Day and Veteran's Day get overlooked by children because of the commercialization of holidays like Halloween, Valentine's Day, or Christmas. This year that will change!

I teach Social Studies to students in one of the most diverse towns in Massachusetts.

My students come from so many different backgrounds and celebrate almost every holiday on a calendar. This year, I want my kindergarten students to understand the importance of American holidays and symbols. The students are so young and eager to learn that celebrating these important holidays and recognizing the symbols of our nation will be an exciting adventure.

My Project

Throughout the year the kindergarten students are going to be exposed to national holidays. The goal is for the students to recognize that these holidays are not just an excuse for a day off from school, but a celebration of the history of our nation. Each month a new holiday or symbol will be the focus of study and exploration. The students will then explain why it is important to recognize these holidays and celebrate them each year.

By donating to this project, you will help kindergarten students for years to come understand the importance of our national holidays and symbols.

These books are a stepping stone to an appreciation for the country that the students call home.
