Help me give my students a laminator. The students often times create a reference for medical terminology by drawing a picture that reminds them of the term they learn. The laminator will protect their work for hanging.
I represent students at DHS. The majority of my students are from families that live in poverty. My class requires HOSA and Lab fees. However, I cannot expect these students to pay Lab fees when I don't even have a lab for them to use. All of the equipment and supplies to teach students with were taken to another location by another teacher. I was left with two beds and a mannequin. My students inquire about what they will learn in the lab and I am ashamed to try to give an appropriate response.
My students are eager to learn and I am eager to teach them.
Unfortunately, I don't have funding to purchase some basic tools, models, materials, posters, etc. to give them the hands on activities they need. I want to engage them in the classroom in order to hopefully encourage some of them to pursue a medical career. Some of these students will never dream of college, but if I help them understand that they can start as nursing assistants, medical techs, secretaries, etc. they have a chance at a better future.
My Project
As a learning tool, I have my students create images that help them retain their medical terminology. The students select their term and come up with an easy way to remember what the term means by using or creating a picture that is similar.
Their creativity is AMAZING and I want to protect it.
The students ask me all the time about when I am going to hang their work on the wall. I have to continue to explain to them that the school's laminating machine is broken. It has been broken this entire school year. It breaks my heart when they ask.
I love the fact that these high school students want their creativity displayed. It will also help future students be able to recall the medical terminology easier by relating the terms to these posters my students have created. I feel that it will also bring on a collection of motivated, creative minds to show their work next year.
The laminator will help me be able to protect the work created and share with my future Health Care students for years to come.
