Help me give my students a safe wrestling season! Many kids skip headgear, which can lead to cartilage damage and fluid buildup around the ears. This can lead to permanent disfigurement, but is easily prevented by wearing headgear.

My Students

My students attend a small, rural school. Boys and girls at our school love to get outdoors when the weather permits, whether it be for playing soccer and tag at recess with friends, running with the cross country team, or riding bikes around town. Many kids travel all over the area to participate in sports such as wrestling, soccer, rodeo, and basketball.

These students have a great work ethic and athletic ability.

They are hard working kids that enjoy the chance to get out and compete. They are not afraid to put in the necessary time it takes to be dedicated to a sport. My elementary students are tomorrow's high school athletes!

My Project

Our school is reviving our youth wrestling program. Elementary age kids benefit from this sport by learning mental and physical discipline, good sportsmanship, and respect for authority, which will help them in other sports and also build important life skills. Boys and girls are encouraged to join the team and have fun!

For many families, just purchasing wrestling shoes and traveling to meets can be a financial hardship.

Headgear is another expense that tends to be skipped or thought of as unnecessary. But, it protects kids' ears and gives them extra facial protection. Headgear should be required, according to this teacher, mom, and fan!
