Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My students often have to worry about things outside of their education such as food, money, transportation, and the challenges of their home lives. Things that any middle school students shouldn't have to worry about. Though they face great challenges they come to school and achieve great things.
My students all come from low income families with 100% of students are on free and reduced lunch and are all bused to our school.
Despite our extreme poverty we have some of the highest test scores in the city in both math and language arts. The band is there to help provide support to the students and give them a well rounded education. The success is because these students have a strong desire to further themselves and do great things with their lives.
Education is the driving force behind the change in our students, and thereby the change in the community. New technology, methods, and resources will empower these students to stay in school, go to college, and prepare for careers that will provide the necessary socio-economic change that will drive REAL change. We are a part of a revolution in urban education that recognizes and develops talent, creativity, and positive social interactions.
My Project
In part 1 of this project we were able our able to get an Apple Time Capsule for our classroom which is a wireless hard drive for our students to access and store their data on when they are working on projects in class. This Airport Extreme is a device that expands the network range of the the Time Capsule, so that students will be able to back up from anywhere in the band hall. It is really important that the students be able to access the hard drive, no matter where they are working.
This project is so important because my students mean the world to me!
I would love my students to have this experience of band so I can teach them music, theory, and other academic class.
