Each one of my students holds an incomparable skill set that makes them unique to themselves, one of whom decided to utilize his talents for the greater good of his peers, staff, and community. Teaching, engaging, and interacting were the fundamentals behind his venture and as a result, the 2018 Prosthetics Club was formed. Not only does this specific individual lead with passion, but all the students surrounding and supporting the club itself show a variety of Firebird qualities-kindness, respect, honesty, and trustworthiness.
With the desire to learn and the heart of a servant, my students joined together to engage in an interactive atmosphere and a community-driven activity. Donating part of their lunchtime, each member interacts with one another to benefit the club as a whole and as peers collaborating with another.
Engaging one on one inside and outside the classroom, my motivated-students will gain a variety of social and emotional skills to take with one another once they graduate high school and into our future college of choice. Not limited to teamwork, trustworthiness, organization, and problem-solving abilities, but also encompassing that of empathy, commitment, and integrity, this project serves as a step stone in community in outreach toward constructive partnership.
In Their Own Words
Throughout this project, my team members and I hope to build a solid foundation of 3D programming and printing. As a result, we hope to gain a basic level of designing prosthetics for all genders and age genres. Once a clear groundwork has been settled, as a club, we will begin to donate our pieces to those in need.
For those who understand the program, design, and model of the MakerBot 3D printer, he/she will begin to demonstrate their knowledge and skillset toward the other members of the organization, in order for both parties to expand his/her understanding toward teaching and training. Hereafter, the club itself will benefit the community with its ultimate goal of possible donations to patients in need.
As Firebird students, we have been raised on the notion of the 5R's-relationship, relevance, respect, rigor, and responsibility. Holding these as the pillars of our school's foundation, both the staff and students support one another in their desire to learn, grow, and share. To those who seek to understand, what may seem as simple as a 3D printer, others find an inventive hobby or lifetime career. Contributing to those in need, this project will solve unanswered questions by our fellow classmates, but also that of physical limitations for those in our community; not only physically, but also emotionally as well.
