This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
My class is a mixture of varying levels of English Language Learners. I have students who are brand new to this country and the school scene as a whole. I have quite a few that do not even speak English beyond the simplest of words which makes communication very difficult. I have students who communicate decently and need a little push to get them up to where they should be academically. I also have students who communicate very well and just need more structured and varied learning.
My Project
Funding is very low at our school, making it difficult to obtain the resources necessary to give my students a fighting chance in this country. Many of my students, dare I say about 80% have come from other countries for a chance at a better life and that begins with a proper education. It is my goal, with these resources, to be able to better engage my second graders with not just verbal, but visual learning. Reading is the foundation for learning, and visual aides such as books and magazines are crucial to the process. The books are age and level appropriate for the students that I teach. The magazine series touches on many standards that we as educators cover throughout the school year. These materials will be very appreciated by my students as well as myself.
