I need the opportunity to help my students increase their articulation and phonology skills!
This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
In my speech room, the students do more than play games...they learn how to communicate effectively with their peers.
45% of my school's special education population requires Speech and Language Support.
During each of my student's speech sessions, they work on increasing their articulation/phonology, expressive/receptive language, pragmatics, and fluency to increase their overall academic skills. They each have goals for what to achieve during their year, and just like them, I want to have a goal as well. My goal this year is to help PROMPT them to have clearer speech. I know what it's like to attend speech therapy... as I was a child with a hearing loss, and went weekly to my speech therapist. I remember my therapist using fun and inviting activities and that's exactly what I aim to do. I have provided them with a fun environment; however, I want to be able to use evidence-based practice and use my professional development skills to help them achieve their goals.
Continuing Education courses and professional development conferences are extremely important. It is essential to remain up to date on current research to be able to provide Evidence-Based Practice when working with students, in order to get the best results possible.
As an educator, I believe that learning never stops.
The PROMPT Institute; Introduction to PROMPT: Technique will be an amazing opportunity to support my students by utilizing tactile-kinesthetic input to increase the production of speech sounds. This conference will help me to learn and implement strategies to use in the speech room!
It would be a tremendous help to attend this conference to be able to support my students in an additional way!
