My students need exposure to new materials to promote literacy growth. I would love to reveal to my class the magic behind writing and reading by implementing literacy circles with works that they have not encountered.

Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Teaching and being a source of consistency for underprivileged kids is challenging, yet beyond rewarding. The vast majority of my 8th grade students read four grade levels below where they should be at. My goal, as a teacher, is to teach my students the importance and necessity of empathy. I hope to accomplish this by promoting writing as a form of a healthy outlet for my struggling students.
I teach at a Title One school in Del Valle, Texas.
My classroom lacks books, and normal everyday school supplies. Therefore, I feel as if my students are hindered by the lack of resources and supporting materials. I aim to promote literacy for my students (mainly ESL and ELL students). I want to allow the concept of choice in my classroom. Choice of books being read and the materials to aid in better enhancing student literacy. Being that this is a high poverty area, my students unfortunately lack exposure to the beauty of reading and writing due to a lack of funds.
Education is the single most important factor in breaking the poverty cycle.
My Project
More than three quarters of my students live in low income households. Due to a lack of funding, this is resulting in a lack of literacy for my students. Most of my students are ELL and ESL students. That being said, working with intriguing materials will, in theory, better motivate my students to read and write. Inhale reading, exhale more proficient writing.

I severely lack book and supporting materials in my classroom. Due to the fact that my students are in 8th grade and read four grade levels below where they should be at, I am encouraged to promote a better literacy program for my struggling students. For my project, I want my students to have a class set of books that we can read in during class. By making this a class priority and project, I can facilitate the learning of my students. We will have a literacy circle during class and will have open class discussion on what we are reading. Also, to aid in writing, I will have my students write open-ended responses during our class discussions over the given works. Also, Mythology is frequently referenced in literature. Having Mythology materials in my classroom will be used to build my students knowledge so they can understand, and recognize references in the works will be studying.
