Close your eyes and think back to ten years old. What did you want to be when you grew up? Many would answer a superhero, and that is the same dream my students share. But they want to be superheroes of a different kind-they want to save the world through innovation and technological advances.
My seventh and eighth grade students have been accepted in to our school's prestigious STEAM program.
They are extremely bright young minds, eager to learn and always questioning. At such a young age, they have passions they are constantly developing such as curing cancer, eliminating animal abuse worldwide, discovering efficient and environmentally friendly ways to co-exist with one another, and creating technological ways to bring history to life. This is a lot, considering many of them have not been outside of our town of New Ellenton, S.C. They are curious, always wanting to know more about a topic and to discover how it relates to their personal worlds and the global community as a whole. They thrive with research and presentations, constantly aiming to bring information to those around them. Yearning for hands-on learning and firsthand experiences, my students are driven and determined. They care about their educations and know they are not too young for anything.
My Project
By transitioning to a paperless classroom through the use of laptop computers, my students get one step close to achieving their dreams. Our global community today is a technological world. Everything is done through technology, and young minds need to be proficient in these skills. Having these laptop computers will open up so many more doors, however, than just learning computer skills. They will allow my students to see the world. The students will be able to research topics and access the ever-changing, constant influx of information while responding in real time. They will take virtual field trips, connect with people utilizing Mystery Skype all across the globe, and pursue their passions. They will learn computer programming, design apps, and work on engineering projects. They will create presentations, write research papers, and receive constant feedback from their teachers, peers, and stakeholders. They will communicate in a world that is based off of high speed interactions.
By donating to this project, you will help provide laptop computers so that the rest of our classroom may be connected to the endless possibilities they world has to offer and, more importantly, to connect the world with the endless possibilities my students have to offer.
