Student success is the top priority in my classroom, and I want all students to feel successful in my math classroom. When a student is successful in one class, that feeling usually helps those students gain the confidence to be successful in other classes. My goal is to help students feel successful in my class an take that success and confidence to other classes they are currently taking, along with the classes they will take in the future.
I have the privilege of teaching all 7th and 8th grade students in my school.
This gives me the opportunity to get to know each student and connect to each one over a two year period. Since over half of my students come from a low-income home, they are unable to come to class with the necessary supplies they need for their classes.
My Project
As students excel in mathematics, the computation portion of the problems get larger and sometimes more difficult. The mathematical focus in Junior High transitions from basic computation to solving problems algebraically. With the use of calculators, I can help my students focus on the steps needed to correctly solve the algebraic equations instead of focusing on if they correctly divided.
By donating to my project, you will help students be able to shift their focus from computation to algebraic equations.
This will help my students gain the confidence they need to be successful in my class. Which in turn, will help them gain confidence in their other classes.
