My students are passionate, inventive, and exemplary young men and women. My students walk through the door each day eager to learn and create new things. They are caring and hardworking individuals who embrace the power of one community.
I work in a Title I elementary school where 100% of the students receive free breakfast and lunch.
My students come from diverse cultures and socioeconomic backgrounds. Many of my students speak multiple languages including: Spanish, Dari, Pashto, and Farsi. The diversity present in my third grade classroom has led to to many discussions about acceptance and cultural understanding. CES is home to many unique programs including: I-Stem, Extending the Bridges of Literacy, and Quest. It has a wonderful learning community and fosters a deep love of life-long learning in all of their students.
My Project
My math students are given time to work independently each and every day. However, some students are lost in the shuffle as they are not yet independent with their mathematical tasks. The hands-on math manipulatives your generous donation will proved will aid students in their transitions to become independent learners. The Build and Learn mathematical kits will allow the students the opportunity to explore the mathematical world through touch and exploration. Students will be able to actively create area and perimeter models and will be able to create their own geometric shapes. The Power Pens will allow students the opportunity to check their work and receive feedback in a quick and timely manner. The material covered through the Power Pens will allow students to review skills they have fallen out on or to enhance their ability to solve equations in those domains.
The math manipulatives will directly impact the students' mathematical education and will allow for more meaningful independent tasks for students.
All of these materials will allow the students to practice and enhance their capabilities in mathematics through successful independent practice.
